ON SPECIAL KINSHIP OF HERMANN AND THE OLD COUNTESS IN PUSHKIN’S SHORT STORY "THE QUEEN OF SPADES"

Abstract. The article presents a different from the traditional interpretation of the fragment of Pushkin’s short story "The Queen of Spades" related to the behaviour of the protagonist and the theme of rumours. The work substantiates the idea that it was important for Pushkin to point out the spiritual commonality of the old Countess and Hermann, who inherited "kindred" passions and moral guidelines from her. It has been ascertained that in Pushkin’s texts, there are indications of the moral unacceptability of actions and thoughts that a person can be a means of achieving the goals of another person. The author comes to the conclusion that in the fragment under study, the idea of "spiritual kinship" of such people dominates, and the theme of rumours is present only on the surface.
