ETIOLOGICAL MYTH AS A MEANING-FORMATIVE COMPONENT OF THE OSSETIAN LITERARY TALE

Abstract. The article analyses close interrelation of the Ossetian literary tale and the archaic animal epos. Special attention is paid to the etiological myth as one of the meaning-formative components of the Ossetian author’s tale explaining certain exterior and behavioural characteristics of animals, birds, insects and causes of natural phenomena. It is shown that such literary works are even more disengaged from mythic time than folk tales, writers use aetiology exclusively for the didactic purpose. Relevance of the paper is conditioned by the lack of studies on history and problems of the Ossetian children’s literature.
