Abstract. The article examines the Mongolic words with the root phonemes [l] and [l'] with the common meaning "plane". Participation of these phonemes in the verbalization of planarity is a language universal. Using psychophysiology data, the authors reveal interrelation between the phonemes [l] , [l'] and a word meaning. It is shown that realization of the meaning "plane" is associated with such an articulatory characteristic of the phonemes [l] , [l'] as closure of the tongue and the hard palate. The analysed lexemes certainly represent peculiarities of the sensual and figurative way of the world cognition.
