REALIZATION OF LINGUISTIC COMPRESSION PRINCIPLE IN SUBSTANDARD VOCABULARY OF THE AFRO-AMERICAN SOCIAL ETHNIC DIALECT

Abstract. Linguistic compression as a means of word-formation is one of efficient linguistic tools of economy. The article examines the types and role of linguistic compression in substandard vocabulary of the Afro-American social ethnic dialect. The peculiarities of linguistic compression are analysed from the viewpoint of historical experience, ethno-cultural traditions and psychology of the Afro-Americans. The findings lead to the conclusion that the basic means of lexical compression are abbreviation, telescopy, conversion, borrowings and numerals. The basic principle of compression in the substandard vocabulary of the Afro-American social ethnic dialect is closeness, privacy due to extra-linguistic factors.
