SYMBOLISM OF SOPHIA’S IMAGE IN L. ULITSKAYA’S NARRATIVE "SONECHKA" AND T. TOLSTAYA’S STORY "SONYA"

Abstract. The article considers the symbolism of Sophia’s image in L. Ulitskaya’s and T. Tolstaya’s works. Female images in L. Ulitskaya’s narrative and T. Tolstaya’s story are analysed in the context of the cultural concept SOPHIA; the author’s interpretation of the name "Sonya" is examined; continuity in the formation of the female image is identified. Sonechka’s image in L. Ulitskaya’s narrative and T. Tolstaya’s story is the author’s game of literary meanings. Intertextuality of L. Ulitskaya’s narrative and T. Tolstaya’s story helps to reveal the polysemantic nature of Sophia’s name, to recognize the eternal laws of nature represented through the woman’s life story.
