SYMBOLIC REALIZATION OF COLOUR TERMS IN S. KING’S WORKS (BY THE MATERIAL OF THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE)

Abstract. Colour, one of the basic concepts of culture, develops symbolic representations. The article aims to reveal the symbolic meanings of colour terms in works of the modern American writer S. King and to identify the means by which the symbolism of a certain colour term is realized. The analysis has allowed the author to introduce an approach to reveal symbolism using words-qualifiers (allonyms and semantic indicators). The findings indicate that this approach can be used to identify the concretization of word meanings within the context.
