Abstract. The article examines the lexico-semantic peculiarities of the words л?пый , л?подръвъ in the Old Russian translation of John Malala’s "Chronographia" Book V. The existing problem of interpreting the Slavonic-Russian words in the Old Russian texts causes the necessity to analyse lexical meanings of these words relying on modern conceptions about the Old Russian language. The results show that the adjective л?пый has a wide range of lexical meanings; it’s a case of hypersemantization. The conclusion is made that the lexical meaning of the adjective л?подръвъ could be identified relying on the etymological analysis.
