Abstract. The article deals with the problem of the autobiography genre genesis in the Chinese literature. Basing on the detailed analysis of scientific research by the Chinese, Japanese and Western scholars, dating and systematization of early autobiographical forms are carried out. The paper gives examples of the most representative works. The author comes to the conclusion about the dual nature of the modern autobiographical genre formation in China: the continuity of the Chinese tradition itself and the borrowing of the experience of the Western biographical and autobiographical literature.
