THE ENGLISH PHRASAL VERB AS A LITERARY NORM AND MODERN SPEECH PRACTICE (BY THE MATERIAL OF FILMS FROM SILENT CINEMA TO THE PRESENT DAY)

Abstract. The article is devoted to the study of phrasal verbal units and the comprehension of their essence as an integral part of the English language usage. The research is conducted on the material of the cinema, where English speech is presented in the form closest to natural communication. In the process of the study, statistical data are collected that indicate a decrease in the number of phrasal verbs in the conditions of everyday speech communication. The main provisions of the language policy of the English-speaking society are analyzed, leading to reduction in the number of phrasal verbs in speech and the transition of phrasal verbs from the level of the literary norm to the category of the English language usage.
