Abstract. The article examines older parents’ influence on grandchildren’s development in the children’s literature of the ХХ-XXI centuries. The research is based on the methodological principles of interdisciplinarity and systemic character presented in modern social and humanities knowledge. Comparative-contrastive methodology allows the authors to consider the features and patterns of the figurative structure of a work of fiction. Basing on historical, cultural, sociocultural and typological approaches, it seems possible to establish the typological commonality of the literary image of "older parents". The authors prove that the images of "active" grandmothers and grandfathers dominate in the fiction texts of world literature, and in their creation zoological and floristic portraits-comparisons are used. The works of Russian and foreign children’s literature serve as the material of the study. Grandparents’ images in children’s literature acquire new intra-family significance, provide everyday, psychological help, and also preserve and transfer family traditions to grandchildren.
