Abstract. The article examines the culturological and mythological component of "V?lusp?" - the first and most famous of "Elder Edda" songs. The analysis of this song indicated the special role of cosmogonic and eschatological motives for Icelandic and, in general, Scandinavian culture. By the example of this monument of Old Icelandic literature the author shows the importance of references and repetitions in the Eddic tradition. The paper describes the basic speech features typical of the heroes of Scandinavian myths. The findings lead to the conclusion that "V?lusp?" had ideological influence on the further development of Scandinavian and European mythology, literature and other kinds of art.
