Abstract. The article focuses on creating and analyzing the mental maps of certain lexemes nominating mythological creatures in the English language. Relying on the data of the Visual Thesaurus software and the lexicographical analysis of eighteen English dictionaries the author identifies some problems concerning the categorization of the mentioned notions. The paper proposes a scheme of semantic valency and invariation of lexemes in their mythologized meanings. The suggested model establishes different types of semantic relations between some mytho-lexemes and identifies their semantic invariant.
