REDUCING THE ASSESSMENT CATEGORICITY AND PRAGMATIC FUNCTION OF ASSESSMENT IN THE FILM REVIEW

Abstract. The article considers the problems of the assessment categoricity in the film review genre. The study focuses on analyzing the linguistic means to reduce the assessment categoricity in the reviews of modern Russian films and on identifying the pragmatic function of applied linguistic means in communication between the reviewer and the reader. The findings lead to the conclusion that reducing the assessment categoricity is the author’s strategy securing communicative efficiency and reinforcing influence on the reader’s evaluative attitude.
