Abstract. The article is aimed at the consideration of the connection of language and culture represented by national and cultural connotations. The study of connotative meanings promotes the identification of culturally significant information, which is one of the criteria of the determination of the level of language proficiency and a favorable condition for intercultural communication. This article presents the results of the comparative analysis of the English lexical-semantic group "eye" and the Tatar lexical-semantic group " к?з ". The detailed study of the semantic structures of these lexical-semantic groups enables to identify the typology of national-connotative meanings in English and Tatar. The work also notes differential connotative meanings, which determine the degree of correlation and divergence of cultural codes of representatives of different nationalities and ethnic groups, such as English and Tatar.
