SPIRITUAL BEAUTY OF CHILDREN’S IMAGES IN I. S. SHMELYOV’S STORIES OF 1906-1915

Abstract. The article is devoted to the interpretation of the theme of the spiritual beauty of children’s images in the stories "The Sergeant-major", "On a Hasty Business" and "The Shy Silence" created by the outstanding expatriate Russian writer Ivan Sergeyevich Shmelyov in 1906-1915. Special attention is paid to the issues of the writer’s comprehension of the nature of childhood, a child’s inner world, the reflection of its spiritual integrity and harmony. The problem of growing up is understood as the process of these properties loss and their return necessity. The theme of art, traced in the stories, is inextricably linked with the theme of childhood. The poorly examined subject chosen for the study and the author’s conclusions may be of particular interest to the specialists dealing with the problems of the Russian literature of the XX century.
