SIGN AND SYMBOLIC CODING OF PERSONAGES IN THE NOVEL "THE WHITE DRESS" BY Z. TOLGUROV

Abstract. The article analyzes the traditional for the national folklore and literature principle of personages typology on the basis of sign and symbolic coding. The novel "The White Dress" by the leading Balkarian prose writer Z. Kh. Tolgurov serves as an example. Analyzing the conceptual content of the novel the researcher identifies the set of encoded metaphorical meanings; special attention is paid to the structural arrangement of the epical text. The paper focuses on the hero and the anti-hero images, explains their semantics and functional importance. The author emphasizes the essential role of dichotomic descriptions when portraying these personages.
