"MALE" AND "FEMALE" MYTHS IN RUSSIAN CLASSICAL LITERATURE AND ANIMA/ANIMUS ARCHETYPES AS THE TOOLS OF GENDER ASPECT OF LITERARY ANALYSIS

Abstract. The article provides an analysis of two mysterious storylines of Russian classical literature - amorous conflicts of F. M. Dostoevsky’s novel "The Idiot" and I. A. Bunin’s story "Shrove Monday" - from the viewpoint of C. G. Jung’s theory of archetypes of the collective unconscious. Classical works are characterized by the existence of two opposing viewpoints, "male" and "female", conditionally named as "male" and "female" myths. The author believes that tragic nature of mysterious storylines is conditioned by the manifestations of positive and negative aspects of Anima/Animus archetype in the images of F. M. Dostoevsky’s and I. A. Bunin’s personages.
