RUSSIAN "CAUCASIAN STUDIES" PROSE OF THE XIX CENTURY: GENDER DISCOURSE

Abstract. The subject of the study is gender discourse of the Caucasian theme in the interpretation of the Russian writers of the XIX century - A. A. Bestuzhev-Marlinsky, A. V. Druzhinin, M. Yu. Lermontov, L. N. Tolstoy, each of whom happened to be a participant or witness of the Caucasian War (1722-1864). The objective is to identify the specificity of the North Caucasian gender world view in the literary interpretation of representatives of the Russian realistic and romantic schools. For the first time by the material of the "Caucasian studies" Russian literature, the collective image of the XIX-century woman - mountain dweller is recreated. The results of the research contribute to the little-studied gender theory, gender discourse of the Russian literature and scientific Caucasus studies. The author comes to the conclusion that A. A. Bestuzhev-Marlinsky, A. V. Druzhinin, M. Yu. Lermontov and L. N. Tolstoy are Russian writers, who captured the physical, psychological and mental character of the North Caucasian woman in conditions of the frontier realistically. The defining feature of her image is the ability to think "above the conflict", the total denial of war and the establishment of peace as the highest value.
