V. A. ZHUKOVSKY’S "SILHOUETTE" IN THE CRITICISM OF YU. I. AIKHENVALD

Abstract. The article examines the receptive strategy of mastering the poetry and biography of V. A. Zhukovsky in "Silhouettes of the Russian Writers" by Yu. I. Aikhenvald. As shown in the paper, the key dichotomy of the Russian history and literature in the creative consciousness of the critic is the opposition of the traveler and the stay-at-home, most clearly expressed in Zhukovsky’s poem "Theon and Aeschines". According to Aikhenvald, the poet could not overcome the internal settled way of life, but he formulated this "painful point" of the Russian culture and opened its poetic reflection.
