Abstract. The article is devoted to the study of the psycholinguistic features of the formation and functioning of modern nominative metaphors in the political Internet discourse. The most frequently used metaphors in social networks "Twitter", "Facebook" and online diary service "Live Journal" are considered in the context of coverage of confrontation between Russia and the West. The author gives the results of a free associative experiment, the purpose of which was to reveal connection between the use of nominative metaphors and the linguistic consciousness of participants of the Internet communication. The cognitive mechanism of metaphorical transfer is formulated on the basis of the associative structure of the subjective meaning of the word.
