HELL IMAGE IN THE PARABLE STORY "THE GREAT DIVORCE" BY C. S. LEWIS

Abstract. The author considers the Biblical image of hell and its artistic interpretation proposed by C. S. Lewis in the pages of his most significant work, the parable "The Great Divorce" (1932-1945). Describing hell, C. S. Lewis continuously refers to the Holy Scripture and other sources, the most important of which are the monuments of medieval literature, in particular, "The Divine Comedy" by Dante Alighieri. At the same time Lewis interprets hell not only as a place but as a state of soul that failed to accept the Divine Grace.
