CENSORSHIP AND I. V. VERNADSKY’S "ECONOMICHESKIY UKAZATEL" ("ECONOMIC GUIDE") OF 1857-1861

Abstract. The article analyzes the interaction of censorship and business editions of 1857-1865 which is considered by the example of censorial cases initiated against I. V. Vernadsky’s "Economicheskiy Ukazatel" ("Economic Guide"). The author describes what kind of materials were under close attention of censorial departments, what articles were forbidden and what penalties were applied to censors who approved "undesirable" articles. The paper also discovers the relations between censorship and other business periodicals of the turn of the 1850-1860s.
