Abstract. The article is devoted to the complex study of the English press syntax by the example of The Economist magazine for 1950 and 2017. It should be noted that the existing studies of this problem are mainly based on the results of the analysis of fiction, so at the moment there isn’t any comprehensive and well-reasoned description of the tendencies in the English press syntax change at the level of composite and expanded sentences in the linguistic literature. The objective of this work is to study the functioning and interaction of different-level sentences in the modern English press, as well as identification of trends in the development of the syntactic structure of composite and expanded sentences.
