Abstract. The study is devoted to the identification of the connotative specificity of occasionalisms, functioning in English modern literary texts. Depending on the stylistic connotation of the elements that are part of the writer’s neologism, the occasionalisms can be differentiated into stylistically neutral, elevated and lower. The authors come to the conclusion that the stylistic and evaluative components of the connotations of occasionalisms are interdependent: stylistically elevated occasionalisms generally have a positive evaluation, and authorial neologisms with a negative evaluation are stylistically lowered.
Key words and phrases: коннотация, окказионализм, стилистический компонент коннотации, оценочный компонент коннотации, connotation, occasionalism, stylistic component of connotation, evaluative component of connotation
