CULTURAL IMPORTANCE OF A. REYHER’S LATIN-GERMAN DICTIONARY (1686) AND MATERIAL VALUE OF ITS AVAILABLE COPIES

Abstract. The article for the first time tries to identify the cultural importance of A. Reyher’s Latin-German dictionary (1686). The relevance of the study is conditioned by the fact that the mentioned work is still underestimated by the scientific community, many representatives of which are unaware of its existence. Relying on historical facts and on the views of modern linguists and German scholars the author concludes about the special importance of the mentioned dictionary for the world culture in general and the German culture in particular. The findings allow the author to consider the available copies of the dictionary as invaluable for science and unique artefacts, which have practically disappeared.
