THE PRINT MEDIA ROLE IN ETHNIC IDENTIFICATION OF BASHKORTOSTAN’S ETHNIC GROUPS

Abstract. The article examines the role of the print media in a nation’s ethnic identification. The national socio-political print media provide the informational support of state programs, publish official materials of municipal bodies but ethno-cultural content still prevails in newspapers. Special attention is paid to socially important themes, national projects. The author concludes that the policy to provide the Bashkortostan peoples with the opportunity to publish newspapers in their native languages has justified itself. The national press participates actively in socio-political and socio-economic processes, securing inter-ethnic stability in the Republic of Bashkortostan.
