RECEPTION OF THE NOVEL "THE MAGIC MOUNTAIN" BY THOMAS MANN IN DOMESTIC AND FOREIGN LITERATURE

Abstract. The article is devoted to the research of the poorly studied history of the reception of the novel "The Magic Mountain" by Thomas Mann, which occupies a special, "intermediate" position in his creative heritage. Multidirectional tendencies in the study of "The Magic Mountain" that prevail in the Russian and foreign literature of the XX and early XXI centuries are considered. Relevant research lacunae are identified. Particular attention is paid to the genre originality of the novel, as well as its psychologism. The author concludes that the future belongs to the research, in which the evolution of narrative forms in the novel is analysed in close connection with the dynamics of the main character’s mental life.
