CULT AND TOTEM OF GOLDEN EAGLE IN THE KYRGYZ-ALTAI EPOSES (BY THE EXAMPLE OF "МАНАС" AND "МААДАЙ КАРА" EPOSES)

Abstract. The article reveals the content of the notion "layers of golden eagle totem", which is widely used in the folklore and ethnography of the Turkic people. The author analyses the archetypal golden eagle model that synthesizes interrelation with the roots of the world folklore. It is shown that the golden eagle image is a cult one in the Turkic epics. This ancient motive is fully represented in the Turkic eposes. As an artistic means, the golden eagle image preserved the features of a totem (‘берен’, ‘алгыр’), which dates back to the primary prototype ‘алп кара куш’ . The similar but in many ways modified eagle image is observable in "Манас" epos. Here, in comparison with "Маадай Кара", the golden eagle image is not cultic but is endowed with the qualities of totems.
