ROLE SEMANTICS AS A CRITERION FOR ENGLISH VERBS-SYNONYMS DIFFERENTIATION

Abstract. The article presents an attempt of the onomasiological research of the semantic structure of the English synonymic units with the general meaning of psychological influence. The focus of the author’s attention is the problem of differentiating verb units with the partially coinciding domain of denotation, which is solved in the course of identifying the differential and integral components of the lexical unit meaning and describing the role configuration of the verb. The verification of the hypotheses of the study is based on the analysis of lexicographic sources and the data of the British National Corpus (BYU-BNC).
