FIGURATIVE VOCABULARY IN THE TEXTS OF THE AMERICAN INTERNET EDITIONS ABOUT BOXING

Abstract. Basing on the texts of the American editions devoted to boxing, the article examines the examples of figurative and evaluative vocabulary. Its origin and possible reasons for its use in the text are analyzed. The authors note that the meaning of the lexical unit is transferred using military terminology. Figurative and evaluative characteristics are expressed in both explicit and implicit ways, while the English sports vocabulary in comparison with the Russian one has a greater degree of evaluation. Specific purpose of such vocabulary allows referring it to sports professionalisms.
