THE OMNIPOTENT POWERLESSNESS OF DON RUMATA: ON THE SPECIFICITY OF THE INTERPRETATION OF A QUIXOTIC SITUATION IN THE NOVEL BY A. AND B. STRUGATSKY "HARD TO BE A GOD"

Abstract. The article analyzes the specificity of a quixotic situation in the novel by A. and B. Strugatsky "Hard to Be a God". The quixotic position of the protagonist of the novel Don Rumata, a pretender, rebel, stranger and an odd man, passing the test of humanity, is revealed as dramatically insoluble. True quixotism is not a struggle for the mankind, but a battle for a man, an eternal battle against evil in the soul of a man himself, which continues as long as a man exists, and a man remains a man only as long as this struggle is going on.
