CONTRASTIVE ANALYSIS OF THE LEXEME "WEAPON" AND ITS TRANSLATION CORRESPONDENCES IN THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE

Abstract. The article presents an attempt of a contrastive analysis of the lexeme "weapon" and its translation correspondences in English with the aim to determine the closest match. The basic material of the analysis is contrastive pairs, for which the indexes of denotative, connotative and functional identity of lexemes are identified. The material of the study is the Russian and the English explanatory dictionaries. As a result of the research, the authors come to the conclusion that the closest correspondence of the Russian lexeme "weapon" in English is the lexeme "weapon".
