APPOSITIVE CONSTRUCTIONS AND ADJACENT SYNTACTIC PHENOMENA OF THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE: THE PROBLEM OF DISTINCTION

Abstract. The article deals with the question of the essence of the appositive as a syntactic phenomenon typical of the English language. In this connection, the terms used for its nomination are analyzed, as well as different approaches to its description. It is pointed out that the ambiguity of interpretations and approaches leads to difficulties in the distinction of adjacent syntactic phenomena. The author substantiates the need to consider appositive constructions in the unity of their linear and supra-linear characteristics, since forming a plane of expression of the phenomenon under consideration they make it possible to distinguish it from similar syntactic structures.
