Abstract. The proposed article examines small genres of the post-Soviet period in the context of national literature, the representation of the mentality, the psychological portrait of the nation, its moral norms, folklore traditions, culture and religion in it. The work reveals the evolutionary changes that occurred in the stories of the post-Soviet period both in ideological and thematic and in expressive relations. The object of the study is the works by such Kabardian authors as M. Karmokov, T. Kamergoev, Z. Shomakhova.
