THE POLYMODAL REPRESENTATION OF THE CONCEPT "HOME" IN THE AMERICAN LINGUOCULTURE

Abstract. In the article the results of the conducted associative experiments, the purpose of which was to identify the content of the concept Home are presented. The verbal and visual associations received during the experiments on the stimulus Home can be divided into five groups: home as a residential building; coziness and comfort at home; home as a family; feelings caused by home; home as a refuge; and the nature surrounding the home. When interpreting the results, the author compares the experimental data of the verbal and visual responses. The work is based on the recognition of polymodality of the primary image of consciousness, as a result of which the concepts contain the components which it is difficult to verbalize.
