NIGAR KHANUM IMAGE IN AZERBAIJANI POETRY OF INDEPENDENCE PERIOD

Abstract. The article examines the influence of Nigar Khanum image on the heroic female images of the modern Azerbaijani poetry (Tomyris, Sara Khatun, Nigar Khanum, Hagar, etc.), considers the motives of courage, bravery, fidelity, and analyzes the theme of Turkic women’s emancipation and semantics of female images glorified in folk eposes. Special attention is paid to Nigar Khanum as a wife of Koroghlu epic main character. She is depicted as a self-sufficient woman who openly expresses her thoughts and wishes, and bravely upholds her freedom. The author concludes that Nigar Khanum personifies the image of a strong woman who struggles for justice and defends not only herself but all Chenlibel residents.
