THE CRITERIA OF STYLISTIC CLASSIFICATION OF VOCABULARY

Abstract. The article examines the criteria of stylistic (style) classifications of the vocabulary used by the domestic and foreign linguists. The paper analyzes the sources of ambiguity and inconsistency of research findings and concludes that it is explained by the simultaneous use of several criteria in a single classification. The author differentiates and systematizes the criteria to classify vocabulary and shows that such an approach can settle certain debatable issues of classification.
