Abstract. The article describes the life and poetical works of the early Tang dynasty poet W?ng J?. His creative work refers to the period when the poetry tends to go beyond courtier style. Opposing official poetry, he developed an independent creative personality, approached the poetry to a human being making himself an object of description. W?ng J? revived the earlier poetic tradition which included the previous poets and developed the essential peculiarities of previous period: tzu-jan "naturalness" and qi " uniqueness". The paper identifies the features untypical for Tang poetry: violation of literary etiquette, development of independent creative personality, broadening the range of themes, formation of poetry based not on the form but on the content.
