THE METAPHORICAL MODELING AS A LINGUISTIC MEANS OF EXPLICATION OF ETHNO-STEREOTYPES OF THE ARMY SUBCULTURE IN THE USA (BY THE MATERIAL OF THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE)

Abstract. The research is devoted to identifying the interdependence between the metaphorical images of the US armed forces and the ethnic stereotypes of the army subculture in the English-language military-political discourse. Metaphor as a complex figurative-semantic structure is able to generate and consolidate in the consciousness of the bearer of a certain linguoculture simplified, schematic and emotionally-tinged ideas about this or that object of the reality. In particular, the military-political discourse on the US Army reveals a wide use of a number of metaphorical models that promote the formation of certain ethnic stereotypes about the American army and its military personnel. In this connection, it is concluded that metaphorical modeling is one of the linguistic means of explication of ethno-stereotypes of the US army subculture. The article is intended for philological experts and wide audience.
