COMPARISON AS A MEANS OF CREATING A LITERARY IMAGE (BY THE MATERIAL OF THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE)

Abstract. The article describes the stylistic potential of comparison as a means of creating a literary image. Structural-semantic peculiarities of the trope under the analysis are in the focus of the researcher’s attention. The author identifies the most frequent structural types of comparison, typical of modern English prose, and analyzes the pragmatic aspect of comparison. The thematic groups of comparisons, contributing to the creation of the female image in English literature, are given.
