ON THE PROBLEM OF PHONETIC DIFFERENCES IN THE AMERICAN AND BRITISH PRONUNCIATION

Abstract. The study presents a retrospective view of the American linguists and the Russian americanists about the problem of phonetic differences between American and British variants of the English language. The distinctive features of American pronunciation are described. The author defines the notion of the phenomenon of American accent, which includes such aspects as intonation, stress, sounds and their connection in a word and sentence. The conclusions are made about the distinctive features of the articulation base of American English.
