Abstract. Phonetic characteristics of English function words (weak forms) in speech, recorded by native speakers of English and Russian reading a technical text, are considered in the article. The results of the comparative analysis testify to longer duration of weak forms in the non-native speech, in contrast to the native speech, which can be explained by the interference of the Russian phonemic system and the complexity of prosodic realization of structural and semantic components of the technical text.
