Abstract. The article is devoted to the substantiation of the reasonability for the use of audiovisual materials in foreign language teaching of students from non-linguistic universities to form and develop general and professional foreign language competences. The author argues that the use of audiovisual materials contributes to a more intensive development of language skills, and increases motivation of students, the effectiveness and quality of teaching in the context of the specialty.
