AMBIVALENT ESSENCE OF NEGATIVE EMOTIONAL STATES

Abstract. The article deals with linguistic forms of the representation of negative emotional states. In contrast to the traditional view that negative emotions correspond to the absolute evaluative predicate "bad" and have a negative impact on a person, the author points to the existence of the dual nature of negative emotions. Detailed analysis of the examples of linguistic expression of negative emotions, selected from the works of the English literature, allows concluding that ambivalence is caused by subjective and contextual indicators.
