Abstract. The article is devoted to the problem of intuitive differentiation of common and existential content in the speech. The author describes the formal features to differentiate common and existential in the language - attitude towards time and space, universality parameter, transcendence principle. The paper concludes that existential is an open sacral mental abstraction and common is a closed profane mental abstraction. The researcher justifies the possibility to identify these speech units on the basis of cognitive features.
