MEDIA AS ONE OF THE MAIN SOURCES OF NEOLOGISMS IN THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE

Abstract. The article examines the impact of the media on the vocabulary of the English language. The authors study the functioning and role of neologisms in the English language texts of the mass media. Paying great attention to the identification of basic word-formation models and meaning of neologisms, the authors stress such functions and features of neologisms as novelty, expressiveness and semantic capacity.
