QUALITATIVE MEANINGS OF RELATIVE ADJECTIVES WITH SPATIAL SEMANTICS

Abstract. The article is devoted to the consideration of figurative qualitative meanings developed by relative adjectives with spatial semantics. The patterns and the cognitive mechanism of the formation of qualitative meanings are revealed, the reasons for the formation of the evaluative nature of derived adjectives are studied, and the conclusions about the typical semantic transitions of relative adjectives in qualitative ones and the specific ways of reinterpreting the category of space are drawn.
