THE BARGA MONGOLS’ NON-FABULOUS PROSE: MOTIVES AND STORYLINES

Abstract. The article aims to examine non-fabulous prose of the Barga Mongols, small Mongol-speaking ethnos of China. In the comparative aspect the paper analyzes the Barga Mongolian, Buryat and Khalkha Mongolian narratives of mythological, genealogical and historical nature. The authors conclude that the Barga Mongolian oral narrative tradition is characterized by the diversity of storylines and motives, stable set of personages, and well-preserved All-Mongolian archetypes.
