COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF CRIMINAL LAW TERMS IN THE RUSSIAN AND ENGLISH LANGUAGES

Abstract. The article analyzes the Russian-language and English-language legal terms of three lexical-semantic groups - crime, causing death and taking possession of others’ property. The authors find out that the content of the Russian and English criminal law notions, denoted by equivalent, at first glance, legal terms, often do not coincide, can be included in each other or overlap. Understanding such phenomena, dictated by differences in legal systems and cultures, is considered as an integral element of quality legal translation.
