Abstract. The article substantiates the allocation of interlingual synonymy as a separate object of study. Theoretical guidelines for the comparative study of synonymy in different languages are proposed, which determine the conditions for choosing a synonymic equivalent in the transmission of information in another language and contribute to preserving the semantic intricacies of synonymous units of one language when translated into another.
